The Basics of Embroidery

What you will learn:

If you are just starting out in machine embroidery (in the hoop) this seminar will help you get started with confidence. From threads to stabilizers, matching designs to the correct fabric, proper hooping techniques, and what do you do when things go terribly wrong, and, of course, any other questions and issues you may want to discuss.

 Some of the topics that will be covered:

  • Threads-needle and bobbin, and thread delivery systems
  • Needles-yes there are special needles to make your experience much more pleasant
  • Tensions-how to tell if your tensions are correct
  • Embroidery feet and foot height
  • Stabilizers- all types will be covered, including sprays
  • Toppers-types and when they are necessary
  • Push and pull-what causes puckering and how to avoid if possible
  • Hoops-the different types of hoops available and when to use them
  • Proper hooping techniques-tips and tricks to help with most projects
  • Design density and fabric type-what works and doesn’t work
  • The anatomy of a design - what makes a good digitized design
  • The best tools to use-from the proper scissors to specialty needles to bury your threads
  •  Quick fixes when things go bad

Class registration ends 3 days prior to the class for teacher preparation.  A minimum of 2 participants is required for the class to be held.  If there are not enough people registered, a credit or refund will be given. Contact the shop or instructor for any questions regarding registration.
