Building Blocks Mini Quilt: Beginning Quilting
Class is August 20th AND 27th from 10am to 12 noon
Last day to sign up is August 16th
What You Will Learn:
The Building Blocks mini quilt is a perfect project to learn the basics of quilting using just 4 fat quarters to make the quilt top. For social distancing purposes, this class will be limited in size and will be 2 shorter classes with homework. You will learn how to cut accurately with a rotary cutter, mat and quilting rulers. You will also learn how to sew an accurate ¼ inch seam, pressing techniques and notions, basic machine quilting, binding techniques, and quilting terminology
What you need to bring (Supply List):
- sewing machine- clean and in good working order. You MUST know how to use your machine.
- New universal 80, top stitching 80, or quilting 80 machine needles
- Thread- cotton or polyester for construction, and a thread for quilting (you can use the same thread for both if desired, but I love the variegated Cotona Cotton)
- Extra bobbins
- ¼ inch foot- not necessarily required, but a ¼ inch foot or ¼ inch foot with an edge guide makes for a more accurate seam. You can also use a walking foot if you have one.
- Temporary quilt basting spray adhesive such as KK200 or 505 spray
- 4 different FAT quarters (18 X 22 inches), starched and pressed (Best Press is my preferred ‘starch’)
- ¼ yard (NOT a fat quarter) fabric for binding (pressed and starched)
- 40 X 40 inch fabric for backing (pressed and starched)
- Sharp small scissors for trimming threads
- Open toed, edge joining foot, oval holed stitch in the ditch foot, or quilt binding foot- optional but makes sewing down the binding so much easier!
- Clips and/or sharp long pins
- Seam gauge
- We will supply the rotary cutters, rulers, mats, binding ruler, and batting
- *You do not need to wash your fabric.
