Intro to Quilting: Sampler Quilt Top

Skill Level: Beginner; ages 14 and up

What you will learn:

PREREQUISITE: You must already know how to use your sewing machine and be confident in basic sewing and math skills. PLEASE ensure your machine is in good working order PRIOR to the first day of class.  Bring your machine in to the store for a tune up if you are not sure how long it has been since it was used.  Allow 1-2 weeks for servicing (times may vary).

This class meets once a week for 5 weeks, 3 hours per session, and there is required homework, so please review the dates prior to signing up as missing a class will impact your ability to finish the project.

In this course, participants will learn new techniques to build upon their basic sewing knowledge and create a sampler quilt top. Topics will cover selection of fabric and quilting tools (and why quality matters); quilting math and terminology; how to use a rotary cutter and measure with rulers; sewing an accurate quarter-inch seam; piecing; block assembly, pressing, layout, and design options. Finishing the quilt top (basting, quilting, and binding) is a separate class that is offered throughout the year. Each class will upon build skills over the prior week, and participants will leave each class with an assignment to complete at home.
