Embroidery & IQ Designer Club

Embroidery & IQ Designer Club

I just can’t get enough of those glorious, heavy, decorative threads. I use them wherever I can, so why not in your embroidery to really give it some pizzazz? You will learn how to set up your bobbin case (I recommend purchasing one just for those heavy threads), what needle thread to use, the appropriate embroidery designs that work, the different types of threads you can use, and the settings you should use to make your embroidery stitch out without a hitch. And for the IQ Designer portion, you will learn how to make your own designs, and about some of the basics of the ‘pencil’ side of the Designer, and some of the pens that I find work well on the Solaris screen.

Dates of the club: 3rd Saturday of every month; Embroidery IQ in the afternoon (12pm - 1:30pm) then on the following Tuesday the Embroidery and IQ is in the morning (10am - 11:30am).

The Embroidery and IQ Designer Club will be exploring all things to do with embroidery and the IQ designer. Our machines are so powerful, and most of us only use just a small portion of what they are capable of doing, so what better way to dig into all that your machine has to offer than to join our embroidery and IQ community? Each month a new topic will be explored, anything from creating your own designs in the IQ designer (good digitizing techniques will be discussed), to the best embroidery placement on your project. Some of the topics that will be covered (but the club will not be limited to just these) are threads, needles, hoops, notions, placement, troubleshooting, stabilizers, transferring of designs, quilt designs, connecting and combining designs, and of course tips and tricks to get the best results possible. Here are some bullet points:

  • Threads and needles for various situations
  • Stabilizers- we will go over the different types available and when to use each
  • Hoops- what hoops are available and when to use them
  • Hooping techniques-how to hoop the unhoopable
  • What makes a well digitized design

  • Designing your own quilting design

  • Lettering and monograming
  • Notions- old and new
  • Perfect placement of your designs
  • Transferring designs
