What You Will Learn:

In this serger class you will learn the basics of your serger and basic serger techniques as you create a stylish and flattering knit top.  

What you need to bring (Supply List):

• 4 thread serger at a minimum (5-8 thread sergers and combo cover stitch/sergers will work perfectly)
• Serger manual and tools that came with your machine
• The Perfect T-Shirt pattern by Pamela’s Patterns (Berger’s still has a few), Concord T-Shirt pattern by Cashmerette, Women’s t-shirt JAL2805 by Jalie (can order through Berger’s, but you MUST order at least 3 weeks in advance to make sure it arrives on time), or any T-shirt pattern from the big 4.   Warning:  Your store ready-made size is not necessarily the same as your pattern size -- check the measurements on the envelope before purchasing.  
• Good quality KNIT fabric; can be cotton, rayon, polyester, or a combination of fibers including spandex and lycra (stripes are not recommended for this class).  See your pattern for amounts needed (usually 2 yards of 60 wide is sufficient).   Washed and dried to remove shrinkage.   
• Serger Cone thread (can purchase at Berger’s), blending or matching color.  If blending, you will need 2 cones and 2 matching sewing spools of thread for the needles.  If matching, you will need 4 cones. Aeroflock thread is great for the loopers when working with knits. 
• New needles for your serger, knit or stretch needles are best for this class, but not necessary.
• Shears (sharp) for cutting out your fabric (and pattern), optional rotary cutter (with sharp blade) for cutting out if you would like.
• Pins, optional weights if you will be cutting out with rotary cutters.
• Small ruler/seam gauge
• Tape measure
• Small sharp scissors or thread snips
• Good sewing tweezers
• Tissue or pattern tracing paper if you do not want to cut up your pattern, scotch tape for taping tissue paper together.
• Paper and pencil for notes
• Any other sewing notion you normally use while sewing (such as glasses and chocolate)
