Beginning Machine Sewing - Pillow Cases



WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
Come get your feet wet in the world of machine sewing by making a fun and easy custom pillow case that you can use for years to come.  Choose from our boutique textile collection, or bring see of that fabric you've been just dying to use!  Please be sure to purchase, pre-wash, and iron your fabric ahead of time.  Don’t forget a functional home sewing machine and all of the supplies on the list. 

YOUR SUPPLY LIST (WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING):

  • 1¼ yards of quilting cotton (pre-washed and pressed)*
  • ¼ yard of a contrasting quilting cotton (pre-washed and pressed)*
  • Matching cotton thread for seaming and top stitching*
  • Home sewing machine
  • Fabric Scissors*
  • Rotary Cutter (optional)*
  • Transparent grid ruler (or a regular ruler, or yard stick if you have one)
  • Quilting pins*
  • Tailor’s chalk*

Specializing in evening wear, intricate hand embellishments and costume design, Shannon Melick recently graduated from Pratt Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art for Fashion Design. She recently completed a collection inspired by eight powerful women in the Bible. Shannon is currently striving towards her goal of designing athletic costumes for figure skaters, rythmic gymnasts and ballroom dancers.
