This class introduces machine piecing and basic quilting using a rotary cutter, with clear guidance from fabric selection through accurate piecing. You should be comfortable threading your machine, winding a bobbin, and sewing a straight stitch on your own. Students will make a baby or lap-size quilt and complete some homework to finish the project.
Most of us quilters have a ton of scraps that we just cannot toss, so what is a quilter to do?? Well, there is crumb quilting, a method where you take your scraps, sew them together randomly, and ta-daah! A beautiful quilt emerges. In this class you will learn a fun and easy technique to turn all those scraps, of any size, into a beautiful quilt top, or just fabric you can use for anything you want (think purse, tote, table runner, pillow, etc.). We will be making just the squares in this class, how you put them together into a quilt, table runner, or other project, will be up to you.
Your serger can do much more than simply finish seams, it is a great tool for a variety of projects. Making a simple composition notebook cover (with a pen holder) is one of them, and a great way to use your serger to do a quick project that increases your serger skills, and also makes a great gift. Then once you understand how to make a notebook cover, you can use the basic pattern to do other projects simply by changing up the size, adding embellishments, etc.
