Serger Club

Serger Club

Get ready for the holidays by making your own wired ribbon.  This month we will go over how to incorporate wire and fishing line into your rolled hems with fabulous results.  And with a little manipulation, you can add beads onto your fishing line for a more glamorous look.  Then there is the beading foot, a rarely used foot in my experience, so dust it off and let’s have some fun creating beautiful beaded edges.

What you will need to bring:

  • Your serger, in good working order, of course
  • Elastic foot and beading foot
  • New needles, 80 or 90 serger or universal
  • Fun thread, or regular serger thread if you do not have any aeroflock, wooly nylon, or other heavier threads
  • All tools that came with your machine, especially your screwdriver to change the needles, and a good pair of tweezers, power cord and foot control
  • Sharp scissors
  • Fishing line, medium weight, you should be able to find this in craft stores in the jewelry section as well as out door stores like Dick’s and Cabella
  • Thin, flexible wire, you can find this at your local craft store in the jewelry section.
  • Wire cutters, yes, we will need to cut that wire
  • Medium size Beads (about 3mm?) that fit onto the fishing line
  • Stringed beads, 3-4 mm in size
  • fabric to make some ribbon, like organza
  • fabric to play with the fishing line, maybe some satin.  If you do not have anything fancy, cotton will work just fine
  • something to attach the beads to
  • anything else you need to sew
