Fabric Collage: the Bumblebee

What you will learn:

In this class, you will learn a fabric collage technique to create stunning art from any image—birds, animals, landscapes, and more—using a simple pattern under parchment paper. Guided by a full-color photo of the image, you’ll cut and place pre-fused fabric pieces to add depth and movement with various shades of color. You will also learn how to cut precise shapes for edges and details like eyes, as well as techniques to depict shadows and highlights. Once your collage is complete, you’ll select the perfect background fabric to fuse the collage onto. You may choose to wrap your collage art on an (optional) canvas at the end of class or frame it at home.

This is a no-sew craft, but you may want to add embellishments like embroidery or free motion quilting/thread painting.

The featured project for this workshop is a bumblebee.

What you need to bring (Supply List):

A kit is provided and includes all the pre-fused fabric you’ll need in a variety of colors and shades, as well as the pattern, photo, parchment paper, and written and illustrated instructions. All tools are provided during class—scissors, pins, pencil, and tweezers. For first-time participants, a flannel-covered design board is also provided. A fabric fusing demonstration is included during the workshop. (Return participants are asked to bring their design boards to class.)
