Beginning Serger Series: Leggings


  • Learn how to sew leggings with either a 4 thread overlock stitch or a 2 thread flatlock. Skills you will be learning: how to sew curves, use a flatlock stitch, attach elastic, 3 different hem styles.


    Serger or combination serger/coverstitch machine in good working order
  • Leggings pattern such as Kwik Sew 3636, Cashmerette Belmont leggings, or Jalie Stella Leggings.  If you would like to order the Cashmerette or Jalie pattern from Berger’s, you need to put your order in AT LEAST 3 weeks in advance to ensure it gets here on time.  We do have a limited quantity in the shop.
  • 2 way stretch knit, amount and stretch called for in your pattern, washed and ready to go
  • Extra fabric for sample sewing (save your scraps after you cut out your leggings)
  • Elastic, as recommended by pattern
  • Serger Stretch needles size 80 (SUK)
  • Serger thread to match fabric, Aeroflock is recommended for the loopers.  4 spools for 4 thread overlock, 2 if you will be using the flatlock stitch
  • Sharp small scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Pins or clips
  • Fabric Marking pens
  • Seam gauge
  • Seam gauge to attach to serger (optional)
  • Curve foot (optional, but very handy)
  • Lace foot or elastic foot (optional)
  • Looped needle threader if you will be threading the needle with Aeroflock thread
  • Any other notion required by your pattern
Please arrive 15 minutes early to set up, we will need to start at 1 sharp to complete the leggings.
