Serger Jelly Roll Quilt Top

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
The serger is a wonderful tool for quilt piecing.  It not only can be set up to sew a perfect ¼ inch seam, but it also finishes the seam so you don’t get any fraying.  And since the serger can sew faster than a conventional sewing machine, it can be much faster to piece our quilt tops with a serger.  We will also be exploring one fun pattern that uses a jelly roll.  Jelly rolls are strips of fabric that are 2 ½ inches wide by the width of the fabric, usually around 44 inches.  You can buy a jelly roll which will consist of a fabric collection, or cut your own out of your favorite fabrics, either way, utilizing these pre-cut fabrics can really speed up the piecing process.  In this class you will learn how to set up your serger for a ¼ inch seam, how to sew that seam accurately, cut up your sewn strips into triangles and rearrange them into a new design, and then sash your squares easily.  The blocks are about 11 ½ inches square; we will be piecing a 9 block with sashing quilt top in the class, we will not be doing the complete quilt.
