Introduction to Sewing: Part 2
For those of you who have taken the Intro to Sewing part 1, here is the next usage class to help you gain even more skills and confidence. In this class you will learn about a variety of hems, seam techniques to make your projects look professional, the proper way to sew a dart, and how to make beautiful buttonholes.

Class registration ends 3 days prior to the class for teacher preparation. A minimum of 2 participants is required for the class to be held. Sergers can be very intimidating with all those moving parts, needles, and multiple threads, so Let’s Get Serging, and take the fear out of using your serger. If you are new to serging, you are probably unsure of what threads and needles to use, what stitches are available and when to use them, as well as the different feet available for your machine. This introductory course will help take the mystery out of your serger by going over the basics of your serger, from the loopers, to threading, tensions, the various stitches and feet, and the different types of needles and when to use them. Everything you will need to start using your serger with confidence. You will be sewing samples in the class to help you better understand where and when to use the various stitches, how your serger handles different fabrics, and how to guide your fabric correctly to get professional looking results.

You will need to order your vinyl mesh, so sign up early and order your mesh now, it can take time to get it. This class is for the very confident beginner and above, you must know how to use your machine, make buttonholes if you do not want to use grommets, and gather all your supplies. What you will learn: how to sew in an oval, ease fabric, sew on bias tape, and sew an enclosed side seam. If you are going to embroider on your bag, that will need to be done BEFORE class.
