Here at Berger's we offer a wide variety of sewing classes. Don't see something you like, simply call and ask, we are more than happy to make a class around what YOU want to learn. Let’s Get Serging! Taking the fear out of using your Baby Lock serger

Is your Baby Lock serger sitting unused, or do all the moving parts, threads, and feet feel overwhelming? In this introductory class, we’ll take the mystery out of serging by covering everything from threading, tensions, stitches, and feet to needles—giving you the confidence to use your machine to its full potential. A kit is included so you’ll leave with stitched samples for future reference, and please be sure to review the supply list to participate fully.

Introduction to Sewing

Kickoff your sewing adventures with this ‘quick start’ class. In this class you will learn how to thread your machine, the correct bobbin to use, the proper thread for your various projects (yes, there are many types of threads for different situations), and the appropriate needle type and size to use. You will also learn about the various presser feet available, some helpful sewing hints, and how to maintain your machine. Please read to the end, there is a required supply list.

IQ Designer Club

Unlock the full potential of your IQ Designer with this new club for machines like Destiny, Meridian, Altair, Solaris, Radiance, and similar models. Through lecture and demonstrations, you'll explore every IQ Designer icon, gain valuable insights, and leave with optional homework to practice at home. Bring your questions, ideas, and enthusiasm—no machines needed!

How to register for classes?
  • Call the Store to register by phone (703) 368-7169
  • Buy via PayPal online or on our website
  • Stop by the store to see us!


What should I bring to class?

  • If you are doing a one on one or private lesson please speak with the instructor to determine what types of materials you will be needing for your class.
  • Group classes will have materials list on the website under the class description.
  • Email instructor if you have any questions. (Contact info is located at the bottom of the specific class)


What if there is a storm or inclement weather?
  • If there is a storm or weather is preventative of safe travel for either our teachers or our students, the class will be rescheduled for the next convenient safe date.
  • No refunds on classes. Classes will be rescheduled or a credit will be issued.
  • If Prince William County Schools are closed, classes are canceled for that day.

What are the classroom policies?
  • All Machines used in the classroom should be in good working order before the day of your lesson. (If you are unsure of the condition of your machine, simply bring it in for a going over 2 weeks before your class.
  • Registration for class is the only way to reserve a spot. Once registered, no refund will be issued.
  • Private lessons are $65 an hour, and are scheduled on a one on one basis. Please call the store for availability and times.

What if I am late or I miss a class?
  • No-shows will not be made up and  payment is forfeited.
  • If you are late, the time will not be made up.
  • Please do not be tardy.
  • Arriving fifteen minutes early for scheduled appointment is optimum.

Pressing Matters and the Cutting Edge

Struggling with using your rotary cutter to get accurate cuts, whether it is a garment pattern or quilt pieces? Rulers sliding as you cut? Not pressing correctly, or at all, so your finished garment or quilt top is a bit wonky? Having trouble reading the measurements on your rulers? In this class you will learn proper pressing (not ironing) techniques, for both quilting and garment construction, as well as the correct way to use your rotary cutter to accurately cut your fabric and not your person, or gouge your rulers. You will also learn how to read and identify the various markings on your rulers.

Join us for Imagine, a joyful and inspiring 12-month Block of the Month Club where you'll create quilt blocks that celebrate each month of the year. These blocks can be pieced into a large quilt or displayed individually as mini quilts. The club is perfect for intermediate quilters looking to explore piecing and appliqué techniques.
